There are no doubts that specialty courts, such as Drug Courts, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Family Drug Courts are making a difference in the lives of offenders who battle addiction issues. Thanks to two groups with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA)— the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Center for Mental Health Services, over $14 million in grant dollars will be awarded to qualifying programs.
Intended to meet the clinical needs of clients and ensure evidence-based treatment is available, the effort is expected to award 52 grants over the next 3 years. The average annual award is expected to be up to $350,000, though the actual amount may vary.
Eligibility is restricted to Adult Drug Courts, Adult Municipal/Misdemeanor Drug Courts, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Family Drug Courts that have been in operation for no less than one year at the time of application.
