September is Recovery Month 2012, an event designed to bring attention to mental and substance use disorders, to celebrate people and families in recovery, and to laud the monumental contributions of treatment and service providers.
Recovery Month, now in its 23rd year, and the main message this year is that recovery, in all its forms, is possible. It educates Americans on the fact that addiction treatment and mental health services can enable those with a substance use and/or mental disorder to live healthy and fulfilling lives. It also honors the prevention, treatment, and recovery service providers who make recovery possible.
This year’s Recovery Month observance emphasizes that while the road to recovery may be difficult, the benefits of preventing and overcoming behavioral health conditions are significant and valuable to individuals, families, and communities.
