With events centered around drinking, and a huge increase in travel and drivers on the road, it is no wonder that drunk driving incidents skyrocket around the holidays.
As part of our annual Drinking & DUIs during the Holidays campaign, we have updated our Sober Days for the Holidays Resource Center with a wealth of tools to help alcohol programs get the word out about the impact of DUIs and binge drinking during this celebratory season.
Statistics Worth Sharing
To kick off the coming holiday weekend of food, friends, and family, we have created a few Thanksgiving-centric infographics for you to share with your alcohol clients. Highlighting the dangers of “Blackout Wednesday”—as Thanksgiving Eve is known in many urban areas—and travel statistics, these resources aim to support sobriety during the long weekend of Thanksgiving festivities.
Additionally, our Sober Days for the Holidays Resource Center provides great information for your alcohol clients, including tips to help them safely enjoy Turkey Day alcohol-free along with other alcohol and driving safety resources.
SCRAM CAM Programs Changing the Trend for Thanksgiving
It’s not all turkey and stuffing—drunk drivers are responsible for 35% of highway deaths that occur over Thanksgiving. While the stats are sobering, we are thankful for the great results that SCRAM CAM programs across the country are producing.
More than half of past SCRAM CAM clients reported that, prior to monitoring, they drank more during the holidays compared to the rest of the year. But 92% of the same clients reported that SCRAM CAM was a significant factor in helping them stay sober during the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. And better yet, we are predicting a whopping 1.075 million Sober Days for the 2017 holiday season.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
