2013 was a critical year for the introduction of SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring technology into the UK. Last year, Alcohol Monitoring Systems, Ltd. experienced the formal adoption of SCRAM CAM by courts and local authorities across the UK. Currently, England, Wales, and Scotland are exploring a variety of applications that include family law, criminal justice sobriety programs, troubled families, and volunteer participants.
The use of SCRAM CAM in what the UK has termed “Sobriety Schemes” continues to evolve. The schemes include voluntary programs as well as court- or police-initiated participation and are moving forward with input from key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Justice, Police and Crime Commissioners, and local authorities. Each of these government agencies has championed the integration of SCRAM CAM with a variety of cohorts in an effort to better understand how to best use the technology.
